When sugar waxing became widespread, many women ditched the razor because using them won’t make us completely get rid of unwanted hair. It may also damage our skin. On the other hand, sugar waxing frequently would make your hair grow less and moisturize our skin.
If you’ve been reading my blog, you know that I’m all about sustainability and saving up. I’m the kind of person who would really find ways to spend less and save more if possible. I thought that doing it myself (either buying sugar waxing products or making my own product using sugar and honey), would save me some bucks, but it did otherwise. Hence, I ditched the DIY and returned to Hey Sugar! Waxing Salon, for these reasons:
DIY brands don’t work.
Many DIY brands are illegitimate and don’t keep their promises. Some may work, but only at the start. Since there are not freshly-made, once exposed to the air, they just become so light and won’t stick to your hair anymore. I have never experienced being completely hair-free when doing it myself.
Since it’s DIY, I have to prepare everything myself and all the products. I can always ask my sister to do it, but she’s too busy. Time is precious, so everything is just a bummer in this department.
I don’t know which anti-irritation or soothing cream I should use after every DIY session
It’s essential to use a soothing or moisturizing product after you wax so that your skin won’t be irritated. There are also dos and don’ts which only professional people can give you.
It’s painful and messy.
I’m not a trained aesthetician, nor I am a business owner of a sugar waxing salon, so there’s no way that I am doing this DIY thing properly. I could develop allergies or any discolorations by just doing it myself. I also wasn’t able to get rid of all the hair. I even grew ingrown hair. So much for all those DIY hypes. GRR
I wasted my money on them.
All my other statements above support the fact that I wasted a ton of money for buying those DIY sugar waxes, especially those that did not work.
At the end of the day, it’s all about expertise, practice, but also time and money. Unfortunately, in my case, these 4 didn’t go well together. We just really have to discern which one is more economically-friendly, and availing of sugar-waxing services in a salon is more ideal for me.
